Simplified Entry and Residence formalities

In the framework of tourism facilitation, the Mali airport police grant a five-day admission visa to all visitors. A valid identity card or passport is required for the nationals of the following countries: Algeria, Benin, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Andorra, Monaco principality, Chad, Gambia, Burkina Faso, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Togo, Tunisia. A passport with entry and residence visa (7days) or transit visa are required for all the other countries. Extensions and long-stay visas are granted by the National Police Head office in Bamako.


Vaccination against yellow fever is compulsory. Recommended vaccinations are: diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, tuberculosis, hepatitis B, typhoid and meningitis. Against mosquitoes, anti-mosquito creams and insecticides are available but a preventive anti-malaria treatment is strongly recommended.

Credit cards are seldom used in Mali. Payment is usually by cash. Only the Visa International credit card is accepted by some banks for cash withdrawals and in hotels

The best season to travel to Mali starts at the end of the rainy season in October and ends at the beginning of the hot season in March.

For your stay in Mali, bring light clothes with short sleeves, walk shoes and sun glasses. During the rainy season, bring an umbrella or a rain coat, a mosquito net or anti-mosquito products.

The Senou international airport is about at 5 hours and a half flight from Paris. It is used by several companies, by regular lines as well as charter flights.

The Mopti and Gao airports also receive charter flights from Paris. Local air companies (CAM, MAE) serve the inner cities of Kayes, Nioro, Mopti, Timbuktu and Gao.
